What is a micro-dose?

What is the difference between traditional dosing and micro-dosing?

Traditional dosing for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide follows manufacturer schedules. With standard dosing, the dose of medication will increase in 4-week increments. With microdosing, the dose will remain the same. According to research and observation of the trends among our patient population, this is a very limiting approach. What conditions would exclude you from treatment?

- Diabetic retinopathy

- Type 1 Diabetic

- Low blood sugar

- Eating Disorder

- HIV/AIDS

- Those undergoing chemo/radiation or who have undergone chemo/radiation in the last 12 months

- Acute inflammation of the pancreas

- Decreased kidney function

- Medullary thyroid cancer

- Family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma

- Kidney disease

- Pancreatitis

Are there any side effects?

The common side effects are:

• Nausea: This is the most common side effect. It usually occurs during the first 1-2 days after the injection. It may be associated with some mild vomiting. Lowering the dose or delaying the escalation of the dose often solves this problem. More than 50% of patients have minimal to no nausea. Only about 25% of patients experience significant nausea.

• Vomiting: usually, in the beginning, is often associated with skipping meals and then eating a large meal or eating too fast.

• Diarrhea: less common, usually intermittent, possibly due to changes in food or the effect of semaglutide on the lining of the GI tract.

• Heartburn: Reflux is very common when taking these medications. It’s due to the delay in stomach emptying.

• Constipation: very common and again intermittent, may or may not be related to medications, where there has been a significant reduction in food and especially in fats and oils.

• Fatigue: This occurs when skipping meals normally, but is significantly increased with these drugs, which are designed to lower blood sugar in diabetics. In non-diabetics, there is also some lowering. Semaglutide administration itself in some people produces fatigue and weakness.
